Facts about Kährs Wood Floors
Crafting Your Vision
Our extensive experience in producing wood floors allows us to create an unparalleled variety of looks, expressions, and styles. Whether you envision brushed textures, distinctive bevels, antique distressed finishes, or the subtle sophistication of matt versus the brilliance of gloss, our floors are designed to bring your unique aesthetic to life.
Constructions
Kährs offers engineered wood floors in three unique constructions: 3-layer, 2-layer, and veneer. Deciding which is right for you depends on key factors like your desire for future re-sanding and the most suitable installation method (floating or glued-down).
Joint Systems
Kährs engineered wood floors feature three distinct joint systems: Woodloc® 5S, Woodloc®, and tongue & groove. These systems ensure secure and precise installation for your floor.
Wood Facts
Kährs wood floors are available in a diverse range of wood species, each offering unique characteristics. Beyond their appearance, different species vary in their durability, hardness, and how they respond to normal sunlight exposure.
Kährs: A Legacy Rooted in Nature
With a history stretching back to 1857, Kährs stands as the world’s oldest continuously operating wood floor manufacturer. From our home in Nybro, southern Sweden – a region celebrated for its wild beauty and dense forests – we’ve consistently led the development of modern parquet flooring.
A significant portion of the oak we use for our wood floors grows right beside our main production plant in Sweden. This area, rich in oak, sees more trees planted than harvested, allowing Kährs to ensure our raw materials are produced sustainably.
Leading Innovation
Kährs has a long-standing tradition of innovation. In 1941, we secured the patent for the world’s first engineered wood floor – a revolutionary multi-layer construction designed to remain stable despite humidity changes.
Our pioneering spirit continued in 1999 when Kährs introduced the ingenious Woodloc® system, the first mechanical glueless joint system in the industry, which completely transformed wood floor installation. This system has since been even further perfected with the Woodloc® 5S joint.
We’ve also invested significant research into developing surface treatments that are tough enough for daily wear yet thin enough to enhance wood’s natural beauty. All our surface treatments are proudly free from solvents, formaldehyde, and isocyanate.
Unveiling Endless Design Possibilities
No matter the size of your room or your interior style, a Kährs floor exists to perfectly enhance the space. Our collections boast an immense variety of colors, wood species, sizes, patterns, and finishes.
Each Kährs plank is meticulously crafted and uniquely treated, showcasing its individual composition of knots and graining. Choose from distinct textures like brushed, handscraped, or bevelled, and select a sophisticated silky smooth or contemporary ultra-matt finish. The ultimate tactile and visual experience of your floor is shaped by its surface treatment: our silk matt lacquer delivers a smooth elegance, the ultra matt lacquer creates an authentic, untreated appearance, while nature oil provides a wonderfully natural feel.

The floor and the room
Floor – walls – ceiling: the three fundamental elements that together create the room’s feel. The interaction between these three surfaces can change the overall impression, depending on the choice of colours, patterns, lighting, etc. The floor creates the room’s base, weight and character, and it is also the basis for the other elements, including the choice of furniture and other decor. The floor is where fashion and style meet function.
The floor is the foundation
A floor is so much more than just something to walk on. The floor, with the walls and ceiling, contributes the room’s fundamental feel. When designing your home, you should perhaps consider the floor first. The floor is the base – whilst you can always repaint walls and ceiling, the floor is of a more permanent nature. The appearance of the floor, i.e. the colour, surface, pattern and hardness, can vary a lot between different wood species. From light, calm Birch or Maple, through Oak and Beech, to dark and vibrant Walnut or Jarrah. Find out as much as you possibly can about different species and what they can mean for you in your home. Your floor sets the mood.
What colour should i choose?
Light, dark or natural? The colour of the floor has a strong impact on how the room is perceived. A dark floor “swallows” a lot of light, but it also creates a sense of warmth and cosiness. A light wood floor reflects the light and adds space to the room
